Monte Prato Fiorito e la via dei Pastori
Departure from San Cassiano in Controne towards Col del Serra, which we reach on comfortable asphalt, ideal for an initial snack. Resuming the climb shortly thereafter we recover the road coming from Montefegatesi and continue to climb in the direction of Foce al Lago. The slope increases and the road from asphalt becomes dirt. Arriving at the mouth, marked by a crucifix, we take a second break before continuing to the mouth of the Trebbio located between the two peaks of Monte Coronato and Prato Fiorito. The plan is to climb the latter via a half-hour bike ride and a couple of pedalable sections, midway and on the final stretch to the summit. After the usual photos and putting on our protective gear we begin the first daring descent.
The initial part is totally rideable while the second half of the ridge at least of decidedly exceptional skills and when the terrain morphology improves a bit a slippery terrain due to the surface layer of ice prevents us from being able to try this last section ending at Pian di Luco. Finally from here on the trail becomes totally cyclable all the way to San Cassiano. When we get to the village we decide to go up again to Foce a Lago to complete the second half of the Shepherds route, this time in a counterclockwise direction. To do this we repeat the same route as in the morning, but for those who want to can vary the ascent by using the dirt road of the Gran Fondo di Prato Fiorito that passes through Madonna di Carpineta.
Back at Trebbio after a short break we are going to complete the tour on this second part of the trail set in the gorge between the Coronato and Prato Fiorito. The upper part does not present much difficulty, but as we lose elevation gain the difficulties increase. Part of the trail is no longer cyclable and when it would become cyclable it is very bumpy until it softens a bit near the ravine below the overhanging wall of Prato Fiorito.
