Croda Rossa e lago di Braies
We start from Ferrara right at the entrance to the Braies valley in the direction of Prato Piazza, on beautiful dirt roads and asphalt segments with sometimes significant gradients. Upon reaching the plateau, an immense panorama opens up over the entire eastern Dolomites. We continue to climb for a short time pedaling on beautiful undergrowth trails then begins the first shoulder-bike section of the day, quite challenging on trail 3. We enter a beautiful, fairly rideable valley with the Croda Rossa and Crodaccia to our left, towering above our heads, breathtaking alpine views.
Second back-biking section of the day for another 350 meters of elevation gain, we saddle up on high altitude singletrack, with fairly exposed ups and downs and small pushing sections, to the arrival of a short but exposed ferratina. After carefully crossing it, we continue until we pass a huge landslide, a small but hard push section, and descend on a technical and beautiful trail to the stunning "Rossalm hut." Last challenging push section on a high ground dirt track to bring us to the pass, below the Giavo Grande. We descend on a sensational singletrack to Lake Braies with lots of rocks and hairpin bends in a fiasco environment. We suddenly come out above the lake, which we reach on a hostile trail, exposed passages, hairpin bends and steep inclines, with a last section on scree almost catapulting us into the water.
