Monte Jama MTB Trail
Start from Raccolana (park under the highway) and by asphalt road to Patocco (ignore, just before the village, the CAI Monte Jama sign); for those unfamiliar with these places, a short walk to the upper part of the village is recommended. From the forecourt continue as along the route of the better-known trail that descends along the Patoc stream, but after a short time abandon this track and descend left to a stavolo. From here you climb until you join CAI trail 644. The trail then climbs into the forest, alternating between steep (bike on shoulder) and gentler (bike on push) sections until you reach Sella Jama.
From here you take the path that leads to the cross (very little panoramic peak due to the abundant vegetation). The descent begins, quickly on excellent ground back to the saddle. Then take the track to the right to Raccolana, which after an easy, very exposed traverse begins to descend along the steep southern flank of the mountain (really exciting section) with an endless series of very narrow hairpin bends (I found only two of them really difficult to ride). In this long section the gradient is high, so you need good technique (S2-S3), but you are helped by the very good bottom and lack of exposure.
Once the steep section is over, you cross a bridge over a stream and the trail becomes more flowing, although in places the bottom is a bit rocky (some very exposed bervi sections, be careful). Then we encounter some much wider switchbacks, until a short paved section that lands us at the parking lot. Short trip, but strenuous (half the elevation gain is done on foot), but with really nice and varied descent, obviously good technical ability is required. I did not encounter any crashes and, despite the recent heavy rains, the tires were perfectly clean.
