Description

Cycloalpine route that begins with a long asphalt climb to Sella Sompdogna, a steep trail almost all pushing and biking (500 meters of elevation gain) to the Gemona Alpine Battalion Shelter, which you retrace downhill and then, at the Sella, climb left on slight ups and downs leading to Rifugio Grego, followed by downhill trail on roots that cuts through part of the Val Saisera dirt road. The loop closes on asphalt and slightly downhill Alpe Adria bike path.

Start at Vidali di Dogna, climb back up to the village and take the ascent to Sella Sompdogna, 1000m of medium gradient with some panoramic views to Sella Sompdogna, where you go left along the pedalable trail that leads to the shelter and then for the most part push and shoulder leads on mobile and compact rock in steps and at times on dirt ground to the Battaglione Alpini Gemona Shelter, just below Jof di Miezegnot.

Steep and rather strenuous ascent but rewarded by the pamorama and heavenly setting among the remnants of the war village. An outdoor table and a nice terrace allow a break before the descent, on the same route, then technical and challenging, with some hairpin bends on steps with protruding rocks. It does not allow for breaths until the shelter, from which you descend to Sella Sompdogna in freeride on the meadows, then climb slightly to the left on a dirt road and then gently up and down to Rifugio Grego, after which you take CAI 611 (challenging but short S2 between rocks and undergrowth bottom, with leaves covering wet roots) that descends cutting through forestry to Val Saisera, followed by the cross-country trail and a stretch of asphalt before turning onto the Alpe Adria bike path to close the loop.

Asphalt 40% - Trails 30% - Dirt 30%; Physical condition: challenging; Technical difficulty: challenging
