RIFUGIO BATTISTI - MONTE SPITZ
A short but challenging route at the foot of the Three Crosses Chain, part of the Carega mountain range.
Starting from the center of Recoaro Terme we climb steeply going up the orographic left of the Agno and reaching the Cesare Battisti refuge at an altitude of 1265m after about 14 km, the climb is mostly asphalt alternating with compact and well-pedalable dirt roads, two short counter slopes allow us to catch our breath.
Vast vistas and the rocky amphitheater of the Three Crosses accompany us along the entire Great Trees trail crossing the Montagnole plateau to the plateau of Recoaro Mille.
A short dirt descent to the hamlet of Lonere is the prelude to conquering the summit of Mount Spitz on challenging forestry with gradients of about 10 percent. From the balcony below the summit antennas there is a stupendous panorama to the north. We quickly descend toward Recoaro Mille to continue on CAI path 133, which at first is a very rough forestry, then becomes a steep and uneven path in places, slippery in wet weather (as in our case). Eventually we will be on the outskirts of Recoaro and close to the starting point.
