Crinali di Gamogna e Faldi
There are rides that you have been waiting for a long time but for one reason or another you can't find but the opportunity, and when the day finally comes you enjoy it even more. There is a need for a perfect day and for the weather to have been clement even in the previous days, as the terrain in these areas becomes hell after days of rain.
We start climbing in the direction of San Benedetto in Alpe and after about 12 km we arrive at Canove just after the Hermitage Pass. From here given the beautiful day we decide to take the ridge route following Cai 521b also because during the week I spoke with Tommy, a local biker, who told me that there are two major landslides on 521. Initially the ridge continues uphill in a nice single track in the woods. At about 1000 elevation you start to descend although discontinuous with a few relapses. Nothing complicated except pay attention to some exposure and steep.
Past Gamogna we exit the woods and in front of us an expanse of sandstone ridges opens up as far as the eye can see. After an initial and short peppery section we arrive below the summit of Mt. Calvo where a short but steep section of backcountry biking awaits us. Once at the top the real enjoyment begins a succession of challenging and steep sections that would surely be more difficult on foot than on the bike. We continue the sequence for a nice stretch and then again find ourselves in a beautiful pine forest on a very nice and fast single track until we reach Marradi. Brief restorative stop with piadina and then off to the climb to the Faldi.
From Biforco we take the road to Farfareta on a gentle climb but arrived at km 29 begin 5 terrible km on a relentless dirt road, reminiscent at times of the hard marmifera, until we reach Poggio di Valdosera at just over 900 meters above sea level, and with a last effort we are on CAI 527 or the descent of the Faldi. Initially we do not find major complications although the trail is never trivial, but as we descend it becomes really difficult and fun with some passages that I would classify S4. Up to Biforco the trail keeps a good texture and when you think it is finished one last passage reminds you that you should not let your guard down until the tires touch the asphalt.
