Monte Cucco
Very fast ride, useful as a quick workout, convenient especially in winter when there are few hours of light, it also runs on terrain suitable to be transited even after days of rain, even heavy rain.
You start from Esino Lario, convenient parking, and climb quietly without much effort on asphalt until Cainallo, here you take the traverse that on cartroad takes you to the locality Natre, here a very nice single track takes you to the Alpe di Esino, the last meters are on comfortable and almost flat dirt road. Passed the Alpe you start climbing again, always on comfortable dirt road to get first to Alpe di Lierna and then to Bocchetta di Lierna, pass over and go up to Bocchetta di Calivazzo.
Retrace your steps and when you are still at Bocchetta di Lierna put the bike on your shoulders and within a few minutes you will be at the summit of Monte Cucco, from which on windy days you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
Put on the protections and start the beautiful descent, the first section on the crest of Monte Cucco is not cyclable but after a few meters begins a stratospheric single track (steep and at times exposed enough), you still pass by the Bocchetta but you will not redo the dirt road, take the path that descends to the center of the valley, fun and very flowing, still reached the Alpe di Lierna pass it and shortly after you take to the Forcella dell'Alpe, just below the Forcella on a trail strepy and again, at times very scenic. You arrive at Ortanella, on the trail you will find an iconic little church perched on the lake, also in a very scenic and characteristic position. Continue along the dirt road that will take you to the asphalt and within a few comfortable kilometers to the parking lot.
