Ala - Fittanze - Castelberto - 112 - 111 - Ala
The Lessinia Plateau we usually consider it a transit to other mountains or a destination for winter cross country . However, there are two descents we wanted to go and try. Starting from Ala , the climb up to Passo Fittanze is relentless with many 20% sections, then up to the Castelberto refuge it becomes more affordable, and still we gulped down (in addition to the two average beers) 1700 meters of elevation gain in 26 km. For today the climb is over so, after a good refreshment and putting on our protections we attack the first disces, the 112 that cuts Castelberto mountain for 4 km without ever losing too much altitude. It is a tricky single track with roots and rocks hidden by leaves, not easy at all.
When we arrive at the pylon where trail 111 starts, we realize that we have 8 km of descent and a negative elevation gain to make of more than 1500 meters. which means that the gradients will always be around 18/20%, and indeed they are. This descent is really tough, physical and difficult to interpret with only small sections of flow. It tested us and a few passes forced me to put my foot down. And so, out of the underrated Lessinia came a pretty tough ride.
