Bormio-Bormio2000-3000-Santa Caterina
One must have good training to complete this tour.
Start in Bormio and follow the paved road to Bormio 2000, alternatively there is the cable car. To get to Bormio 3000 you have two choices: either pedal or take the cable car (one ride every 10 min or so if there are no people). When you get to Bormio 3000 you follow the trail to Bei Laghetti (it starts next to the beginning of the Paul Newman descent). This first part of the trail is the most difficult, you go downhill and sometimes flat on a trail composed of slate, in August it is very busy with people walking. After about 1 km there is a climb and you have to carry the bike on your shoulders. After this section the trail goes downhill to the lakes. After stopping for a few photos we start again, following the trail to a junction where we follow the signs to Santa Caterina.
The section is flat on beaten earth, beware that in some places there are boulders and there are two downhill passages on rocks but doable (there is a stream to ford). In my trail you go straight ahead but in doing so you have to walk a very technical downhill section over very rough terrain with roots, potholes and boulders. Alternatively, when the trail comes to a fork with a stake indicating the various directions you go left. By doing so you reach a dirt path that leads to Santa Caterina.
