Rifugio Forte dei Marmi e Monte Gegoli da Sant'Anna di Stazzema
Nice ride on the trails of the southern Apuan Alps. Departure and arrival in Sant'Anna di Stazzema, a place sadly known for the events that took place during World War II, and Monte Lieto serving as the "centerpiece" of this loop. Small gem the village of Farnocchia, definitely worth a visit. It is reached at the end of the first trail of the day, CAI No. 3 (which also skirts the beautiful Lieto cliffs). After Farnocchia continue on the SAV path to Mulina to the church of San Rocco, where the ascent up the asphalt road to Stazzema begins. After a few kilometers of bitumen, you divert to "Case Giorgini," finally finding the dirt road again. Now it is the turn of the beautiful CAI path n. 5a that, after a short stretch of with bike on the shoulder, is pleasantly passable until the CAI Forte dei Marmi Shelter. After a well-deserved rest, the second descent on CAI trail No. 106 begins. You pass the village of Pomezzana and the trail climbs again to the Foce di San Rocchino. CAI footpath No. 107 to Foce di Gegoli, with a fair bit of backpacking, then CAI footpaths No. 3b (very nice) and No. 4 (with backpacking bikes in places) to Foce di Farnocchia. Final descent to Sennari and, finally, Sant'Anna di Stazzema always on CAI No. 4.
Notes: today we struggled quite a bit on almost all the descents as they were really too wet, which is why we recommend this tour in drier periods. The CAI trail No. 106, in its first half, is not very enjoyable because of fallen trees and small landslides. It improves considerably after that.
