Cresta della Clessidra e trail della Trotina
The Hourglass Ridge is an area Must that encapsulates the essence of an all-around cycle-mountaineering tour. After the purely adventurous part you can combine it with other descents in the area, you just need to have the will and energy to ride. On this occasion I wanted to combine the very long, varied and smooth Trotina descent. But now let's get to the point.
The start takes place just below The village of Tereglio at the Trout nursery, so you have already figured out de where the final trail gets its name. We go up the Val Fegana road, go ahead and avoid passing through the village where I passed through to join my adventure partner who lives there. Along the road at an elevation of about 620 meters an unmarked path leads us to cross the Fegana stream, be careful because the bridge has recently collapsed and I have no news that it has been restored, you can however avoid this variation by continuing on the main road finding further on the detour on the right indicating Ponte a Gaio where you can get water.
From here we continue uphill towards Montefegatesi, again on the fork to enter the village there is a fountain, and another one is in the village, worth a visit if you have never been there. Continuing uphill we come to the small church of Sant'Anna where we turn right following the road that leads to Foce al Lago. When we reach the pass, we undertake the backcountry biking portion on Cai 12, passing under the wooded summit of Mount Guesse until we reach the Gabbro Pass at the foot of Mount Mosca, where the beautiful and tough descent on Cai 11 known as the Hourglass Ridge begins. Very long and challenging it is a real test that will test your skills. The beginning is a beautiful freeride keeping in sight the wooden stakes that indicate the ridge route, before entering the woods you have to deal with several tight switchbacks, some very tight and then finish the trail on a smoother section but made challenging by the uneven ground.
Back to Ponte a Gaio we retrace the same climb we made to get to Montefegatesi and arrived for the second time at the small church of Sant'Anna we close the tour on the Trotina trail that will take us directly to the starting point. I recommend doing the tour in the fall or spring (in the absence of snow) to find the ridge clean of paleo.
