Monte Prana cresta Sud
An intense tour made of steep climbs and very challenging descents, especially the Prana ridge which is very hostile due to its steepness and very slippery terrain where it is necessary to take several breaks and avoid the most critical points. Short detour to visit Tambugione Cave on foot. Tambugione Cave opens in the western flank of Mount Ciurlaglia, above the village of Metato and just beyond the Schizzolino quarry. 12.50 meters wide at the mouth and 24 meters deep, it has a wide vault with a hemispherical shape.
Discovered and excavated by Nello Puccioni in 1914 on behalf of the Committee for Human Paleontology Research in Italy, the cave revealed the presence of human bones belonging to at least six individuals, 4 adults, 1 juvenile and 1 child. Along with the human bones, a scarce grave goods consisting of nine ceramic fragments, a scraper on sliver and two lithic arrowheads were recovered. Remains of deer, roe deer and wild boar were also found. The finds were dated to the Eneolithic (Copper Age).
Passing through the villages of Metato Casoli and Candalla with its characteristic mill along the Camaioresi Way Trail and then returning to Camaiore at the starting point.
