Nella vallata del Vipacco
The route starts from the parking lot in Casarossa, Italy, but runs entirely in Slovenia, in the Vipava Valley.
Immediately we proceed to circumnavigate the Rafut pass: the name comes from the German word raffholz (literally fallen branches), because it was traditional to look for firewood there in the city. We will then first proceed through the Panovec forest, then take a paved road to Ajsevica.
Before Sempas we will begin a maze of light gravel roads that will lead us first to Lake Vogrscek, then to Vipavski Kriz, where we can stop at its beautiful little square to refresh ourselves!
I recommend extending the stop in this medieval village (Holy Cross of Aidussina), it is definitely worth spending some time visiting this Slovenian gem.
The return trip begins with a bit of pepper, a fun but not very difficult hilly woodland trail that will first take us back over the Vipacco, then climb the hills of Furlani, a small Slovenian village. After the descent, another 5 km of riding along the Vipacco, then back inland with a series of light ups and downs on macadam-type road or rammed earth, to Sempas again. From here we will travel back along the outward road between Ajsevica, Panovec and Rafut, returning to our starting point.
