Sveta Gora downhill
The start of the itinerary is from the parking lot of the Transalpina train station in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Here we can decide whether to park in Italy or Slovenia, the difference will be only a few meters! In fact, Gorica at the end of World War II was divided in two, part to Italy and part to the then Yugoslavia, which changed its name to Nova Gorica and expanded it with architecture very characteristic of the then Soviet Bloc.
A curiosity: as the Italians call the two cities Gorizia and Nova Goriza, so the Slovenians call their part Gorica and the Italian part "Stara Gorica," old Gorizia.
The first part of the route passes through the Slovenian bike path that runs along the river Isonzo, then we will have to ride a piece of asphalt road uphill that will take us to the entrance of a very technical path, with several steps, exposed at times, but very fascinating, that will take us to the macadam road "Na Sveto Goro in Vodice", here despite the climb continues we will be able to catch our breath until the monastery and its magnificent view. Near the monastery of Montesanto/Sveta Gora we will also be able to enjoy the goats raised by the locals, before throwing ourselves into the challenging downhill trail with several considerable drops, as well as some footbridges, where however we will also find chicken lines.
Not satisfied, when we arrive at Prevala we will begin the ascent to Mount St. Gabriel and from there we will face another well-maintained trail, classified as a blue trail. Present are jumps, bumps, parabolic curves. The terrain is very well flowing, downstream there is a fork to choose which type of track to choose.
The return to the starting point, where we can refresh ourselves with a nice beer at Postaja, a place inside the train station, is via back roads with little traffic.
