Abetone-Cimone-Libro Aperto
WARNING. The route includes a challenging push/shoulder section and sections of poor cycling, I strongly advise against riding it with Ebike.
We start from Abetone and take the foreland road that goes toward Monte Maiori, leave the main road to follow a thin downhill track that skirts a stream and then via asphalt descends toward Fiumalbo
Before the village we turn right and begin the long climb, first paved and then dirt, that will take us to the Piancavallo Refuge. It is 7km quite hard but the effort is repaid by the panorama of the final part.
Leaving the Refuge, we take the very steep trail to the summit of Mount Cimone, there is little or no pedaling and the elevation gain of about 300m is mostly gained by backpacking bikes. The view from the summit is among the most beautiful in the Apennines and is worth taking advantage of to rest from the 'slog'. The route then proceeds along ridge trails to Libro Aperto with increasingly beautiful views.
We then descend toward Abetone returning to Monte Maiori on soft trails in the undergrowth, very pleasant after the many rocks found during the day!
.
As you may have guessed, this is a technically challenging tour more for hikers than for geeks.
