Corniolo - Eremo di Camaldoli
The route starts from the small village of Corniolo, we climb leisurely along the 12km of state road that takes us to the top of the Calla Pass. The road is mostly in the shade and with little traffic even in summer.
Once at the top of the pass we take the Casentino Forests MTB8 itineraio, which consists of a loop leading to the Hermitage of Camaldoli. the outward route follows the ridge along a technically easy path on which there are a good number of pedestrians in high season, however never in problematic numbers...
The trail runs in the shade of a very dense forest and is cool even on the hottest days. When you reach Camaldoli you can stop to eat a sandwich, recharge with fresh water or, for those interested, make a brief visit to the monastery. We set off again heading back toward the Calla Pass, this time on forest roads always shaded by the forest. We face a stony downhill section that leads to Campigna and take the dirt road that crosses the Sasso Fratino reserve.
At this point we take the Cai275 trail, which is quite technical (especially if ridden with a frontino) but fun and in a very beautiful and very untraveled area.
The trail returns to the state highway and leads back to the starting point.
