Idice e DH Fantini
The route starts from the parking lot located under the Via Emilia bridge over the Idice.
From there you descend to the bank of the stream and continue on the EAST bank in a SOUTH direction (toward the hills). At a certain point you will pass over a narrow path bordered on the right by a brick wall. That is the bridge wall that you must cross to change banks and continue along the WEST bank. The path is very winding and fun, no difficulty and slight ascent. The only problem is that it is not always well maintained and can be overgrown with tall grass. The crossing however is absolutely doable. After about a km of tobogganing you come to a fork in the road: going down to the left you continue along the embankment, going up to the right you come out of the thick vegetation and onto via Tomasella, follow it to the intersection and turn left onto via Montebello. Unfortunately, the dirt detour indicated in the trace, and on the spot by signs reading "Buca di Gaibola," is currently not passable because of a collapsed bridge.
Not too bad, continue on asphalt along Montebello Street to the intersection with Gaibola Street and turn right, short ratio and up we go. Do not deviate, stay on the road and at some point you will be back on dirt road and in the middle of the woods. Proceed on the path until you reach the turnoff for Casa Fantini. Here the descent begins, it is technical at times, some fun steeps, a nice high chalk one to do without thinking too much about it and a few drops. At the fork you meet halfway down go right and enjoy the last downhill section.
At the end you will find yourself in a clearing that is behind the Casa Fantini visitor center. You will basically come cannonballing in from the trail, turn around in the clearing to go back and you will see a stepped path. Walk down it, go around the visitor center, exit the gate and you will be on Jussi Street. From here the return begins and the options are endless. If you follow my trail you will retrace the two sections on the banks of the Idice but in the opposite direction.
A couple of warnings:
Watch out for hikers on foot because it goes downhill fast and the trail in some sections makes it tricky to meet people who have the same right as we do to enjoy those places. You meet a lot of them. Keep a fair margin of safety. Be careful not to trespass in the park with MTBs: I'm told the fines are very high.
Bonus: trail mostly in the shade of the forest so suitable even for the warmer months, the trail posted here I recorded on August 13, 22.
