Nella Lessinia poco conosciuta e discesa della Valle dei Covoli

Interesting and pleasant route in the little-known and little-visited Lessinia.

We start from Badia Calavena and go up the Valle del Maso along a small asphalt/cemented road with practically no traffic (along the entire ascent of the valley we did not encounter any vehicles). We pass through beautiful old hamlets that are now, unfortunately, sparsely inhabited or even uninhabited. The first half of the climb has very pronounced inclines, and on some ramps you have to grit your teeth. The remaining part is quieter and you face several dirt cuts. Very nice is the dirt road leading to and through the now completely uninhabited Baltieri district.

Upon reaching Velo Veronese the long descent begins. The first part is on rough but not challenging mule track and leads down to Contrada Tezze. Short transfer on small road and then you face the descent of Covoli real cherry of the route. The descent takes place in a severe and unfrequented environment typical of the Lessinia. The descent is not very challenging technically, apart from two passages on steep steps, however it should be approached with great caution because of the exposure on the side of the Vajo del Covolo. The second half is on steep path strewn with large stones where it is necessary to let the bike slide without stumbling. Not recommended for those who do not like rocky descents.

Descend to Selva di Progno and return to Badia first on a pleasant and interesting path and then along the new bike path, which, however, is interrupted (nearing completion) before reaching Badia Calavena.

Physically the route is not very challenging except for the first uphill section. Technically I would rate it medium difficulty for the Covoli descent, easy for the rest of the route.
