Monte Pilastro Bocchetta di Calivazzo
Spectacular ride for scenery, environment and descent. Partly not rideable, so not for all palates. It climbs on asphalt passing through Esino Lario on a road with not much traffic.
The first part of the offroad trail is on a rideable path with ebike in parts, when not rideable you can push it. The slope is always manageable.
When you get to the bivouac below Mt. Cross you push to get to the cross for about 20 meters with a challenging incline.
From the cross the view is spectacular. From Mount Pilastro not far away the view of the Grigna is fantastic.
Descent to Porta di Prada vent, challenging and not for all tastes. Personally if I were to do it again I would return from the previous trail which is supposed to be great and then go to Porta di Prada from the traverse just below. From the vent you can go to see the beautiful Prada Gate (not on this trail).
The descent from the Prada vent to the Calivazzo vent is beautiful but with the trail not well defined.
From Bocchetta di Calivazzo the music definitely changes, it starts a flow descent with some relaunches that ends with a spectacular descent, technical but not too narrow, all rocky on firm boulders with excellent grip but very pounding.
From the church of Santa Maria it continues less technical but still nice rocky.
Afterwards arrived in Mandello very boring staircase that I suggest to avoid and then last fast downhill.
A good ride that may be worth trying after the one going to the Bietti refuge that offers a nicer descent.
