Poggio Massa Nera e Vallico di Reggello
That these woods were beautiful I already knew, but to find such a rewarding route I did not expect. Having passed through Reggello, a beautiful village in the Fiorentino region that is very well-kept and well-maintained, we head onto the SP86 towards Pietrapiana where we turn onto the SP85 that is much less busy than the previous one and more pleasant.Just before arriving at Vallombrosa we abandon the asphalt in favor of the forest road that immersed in a beautiful fir forest leads us to Macinaia where we undertake the beautiful ridge that transits from Poggio Trogoli and the panoramic Poggio Massa Nera partly skirting and partly transiting on the Cai 14 trail.
Arriving at the second of the two Poggios marked by a large wooden cross, we throw ourselves down a heady, very technical and physical descent that never lets up to an altitude of 720 meters, where we abandon the Cai trail to turn left on a spectacular traverse at exposed stretches that has its highlight in a beautiful rocky terrace overlooking the Reggello valley.
The trail ends at the Bandoni hut where we cross and continue on Cai 14/a which starts from the Massa Nera Bivouac and which will surely be the reason for a future encore. This trail is also beautiful, technical and fun although decidedly less challenging. When we arrive near Acqua Rossa, the descent can be said to be over and via Cai trail 15 we return to that of Reggello.
