Pizzorne da bagni di Lucca

Departure from Bagni di Lucca shortly after Ponte a Serraglio towards Lugliano. Arriving in the village (m. 388; Km 3.5) we immediately turn left toward the Pizzorne Plateau and after about 1 kilometer the road becomes unpaved. After 7 kilometers with an average gradient of 7%, we reach the GPM at meters 980 a.s.l.; a couple more kilometers and we arrive at the Pizzorne after passing by the Church of San Bartolomeo.

Near the Pizzorne we take the so-called descent of the paper mill (marker No. 3), a beautiful and very technical path that takes us, after crossing the Rio Sana stream, in about 3.5 kilometers to Valgiano. We continue along a paved and scenic road toward Matraia and, once we reach the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, we turn right uphill for about 2.5 kilometers until we intercept the Garfagnana road (trail no. 1), which we follow and which immediately takes us across some ancient bridges. After about 6.5 kilometers of paths/white roads we arrive in Tubbiano (m. 745; 31 Km), turn right and continue slightly uphill for another 2 to 3 kilometers where the descent begins that takes us to Corsagna in 5 kilometers. We descend on the SS 12 and return to the starting point, skirting the Devil's Bridge.
