Tugliezzo - Ricovero Franz

Start from the Carnia parking lot near the hotel of the same name and climb toward Tugliezzo on asphalt, a series of tight switchbacks and medium gradient. The first town you meet is Tugliezzo, after the last house you take the first cartroad to the right in the direction of Ricovero Franz, which begins with concrete ramps with gradients above 20%, interspersed with fairly compact dirt road. The forest gets thicker and thicker, and in the last few kilometers there are a few short falsopiano to catch your breath. From the Franz shelter you follow the CAI trail marker and the sign for Tugliezzo, S2 with unstable rocks: the descent is quite treacherous especially with the wet bottom. You return shortly and Tugliezzo, turn right on asphalt and descend slightly then climb again to Stavoli Polide and a barn beyond which the dirt road alternating with paths (red-white symbol) begins, follow direction Povici.

There is an alternation of pleasant forest trails with some more technical and exposed ones on rock to less easy situations. In particular to date we encounter 4 landslides of which the last one has turned the mountainside into a scree several hundred meters wide. Another bike-mountaineering session. The first inhabited hamlet is Borgo Cros, where there is a T-junction with Povici di Sopra on the right and Povici di Sotto on the left. Then follow the left path to Povici di Sotto. Steep trail full of tight S1/S2 hairpin bends, technical and extremely fun, and you will soon cross a suspension bridge to reach Povici di Sotto, Resiutta. From here follow the recommended CAAR (Ciclabile Alpe Adria) route, i.e. Moggio, Campiolo, Carnia.

33km, 30% asphalt-70% dirt road, very challenging due to presence of landslides, single track S1/S2 in parts not cyclable
