Capo Vaticano
Excursion for mtb starting from the Nicotera stadium, where there is ample parking for the car. We start by taking the SP28 towards Preitoni, on asphalt, and continue towards Caroniti. The road is on asphalt, quite disconnected, but it is very scenic. The climb is steep in parts, but short. After 6.5 km there is a 400-meter tear at 16% that quickly leads to Monte Poro. You proceed to the antennas, the highest point of Monte Poro, at 710 meters, and start to descend toward Spilinga through a descent on asphalt, on country roads, frequented by tractors, where it is easy to meet dogs or flocks of sheep. Once the descent is over, you go toward Lampazzone , a hamlet of Ricadi, and continue toward the lighthouse of Capo Vaticano (photo below).
Once past Capo Vaticano you continue pedaling toward Santa Maria beach, and climb up toward Coccorino. From Coccorino to Joppolo you continue on a paved road, which is very busy especially in summer, and arrive in Joppolo. You go up from Joppolo to the stadium pedaling on dirt path.
Very nice ride as a panorama, which can also be done at night in summer.
