Nicotera Poro
MTB route, starting from the Nicotera cemetery and heading north along the flat roads of the so-called "puglisa" for about 3 km. Here begins a climb called by the "stravisti" the wall, a 2 km climb at 13.5 percent with peaks approaching 30 percent, short but intense, leading to the plateau of Mount Poro. The climb is in the first part asphalt (very disconnected) and the last part on dirt. Easy to meet flocks of Maremma people with some sheep (it should be the other way around!). Once on the Poro plateau, we proceed to the shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Stop to refill water bottles, and set off again toward Caroniti. Before reaching Caroniti, in the second hairpin bend to the left, you will find a path on the right. Take that path, cross the pine grove (beware the fairly uneven ground) and continue until you interesect another road. At this point go straight into the dirt road in front, and you will stop 10 minutes enjoying the view of Capo Vaticano on the right and Joppolo on the left. In front you will have a panorama from the Strait of Messina to Stromboli, with Etna as a backdrop.
At this point you descend to Coccorino and then proceed to Nicotera pedaling on the sea road.
When you arrive in Nicotera, you continue pedaling through the narrow streets of the village of Nicotera, leading to Nicotera Marina. At this point you continue pedaling for about 12 km on flat, dirt roads. The climb back to Nicotera includes passing under Porta Palmentieri and passing through Viale Castello.
