Monte Cimone

Challenging tour with stretches of backpacking bike along the ridge that leads from Mount Cimone to Libro Aperto. Very steep descent on ridge and first part in the woods challenging with some passages in the upper part where it is recommended to descend, then despite the slope remains considerable the path is tame. Panoramas of votevole beauty despite the peak of Cimone is defaced by military construziomi.

We start from Boscolungo near the Carabinieri barracks and heading toward it we take the Cai 13 trail just to avoid the state road to Abetone.From the latter we follow the signs for Fiumalbo without arriving there, however, but turning right into Via Versurone,a road that passing by Frescarolo and Castagno will lead us to Doccia del Cimone where a stop at the Celtic huts is worthwhile. At an altitude of 1390 we take a forest road that leads to Pian Cavallaro altitude 1860.

To reach the summit of Cimone we decide to take the direttissima in a fairly challenging push section of about half an hour. From the summit we begin a long stretch of ridge to Monte Lagoni passing by the summit of Cimoncino and then follow the Cai 447 trail until below Lagoni where we throw ourselves downhill on the Cai 493 trail very steep but doable section.

At the intersection with the Cai 495 trail we follow the latter going up to about 1490 elevation near the Verginetta from where following the GEA trail we reach the starting point.
