Monte Prado
Taking advantage of the mild temperatures and almost no snow, we inaugurate the year with the conquest of Mount Prado peak of Tuscany. We decide to start from the Casone di Profecchia to shorten the time.
We travel a few hundred meters of asphalt in the direction of Passo delle Radici to take the forest road on the right of the road that leads to Passo delle Forbici. From the pass we lose some altitude and reach the Abetina Reale Sawmill Refuge. Just before the refuge it is worth stopping to get water at the fountain just below the road.
From here on we resume the climb until we reach the Lama Lite pass at an altitude of 1749. Small detour to the Battisti refuge, reached by single track, for a piece of cake and a coffee.
From the refuge we return toward the pass to then face the most strenuous part of the tour with a portage of about 45/50 minutes that will lead us to the summit of Prado with a stop at the saddle located between the latter and Mount Castellino. From the saddle there is already an excellent view of the Bargetana pond below and the imposing massif of Mt. Cusna, Alpe di Vallestrina and Mt. Ravino, all peaks that can be traveled by bicycle.
The descent from the summit is very scenic of medium difficulty with some pedaled relaunches. If desired, it is also possible to add the summit of Monte Vecchio with a short portage of about 10 minutes. When you arrive at Bocca di Massa, it is also possible to descend over the Forbici Pass on a fun single track in the woods, but it will force you to retrace the forest road made in the morning. We continue keeping to the left in the direction of the Cella refuge and then take Cai 54 that leads right to the Casone.
