A MTB route that is a true journey through nature, history and breathtaking views of the Trieste Karst. After a few kilometers of warm-up, at 4.5 km the fabulous panoramic terrace of Aurisina Cave awaits us, a natural balcony that gives a full view of the Gulf of Trieste: one of those spots where it's worth stopping, breathing deeply and taking a picture.
For those with good technique, the detour to the Tiziana Weiss Belvedere is a treat: the trail is challenging, but the reward is a unique panorama, with the sea hugging the city. A little further on, a quick look at the Roman Quarry reminds us how much this area has been shaped by man since ancient times. The ride continues to the Slivia Towers Cave (guided tour for a fee), a spectacular subterranean realm, before passing through the picturesque village of Slivia, with its stone alleys typical of the Karst.
In the midst of unspoiled nature, Dol's ponds surprise with their stillness (and the noisy company of amphibians), while the Ternovizza Cave, with its open access and steep staircase, offers an experience to be enjoyed with caution.
A touch of history awaits at the 97th Austro-Hungarian Regimental Training Camp Park, where there are educational trenches and firing ranges preserved in exceptional condition-a true journey through time, without the weight of war, but with all the charm of the military techniques of a century ago. The route is not just tourism: there is plenty of real MTB! From the Dol Uphill with challenging karst bottom, to the stone and step trail (where you need to push your bike), to the single track near Camposacro that tests technique without ever being prohibitive. A perfect mix of dirt roads, mule tracks, fire roads and single tracks typical of the Karst region, for an experience that combines sport, nature and culture.
