ETNA NORD 6: Altomontana - Timparossa- Monte Nero - 7days
Short but intense loop with a couple of shoulder bike sections. We will start from the Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi and after a couple of hundred meters downhill on asphalt halfway around a bend we will take path to the left inside the woods, this will take us to the Altomontana that we will ride for a few km with a privileged view of the Peloritani Mountains. After about 8 km of the departure, we will leave the Altomontana and turn left to the path that leads to the Timparossa Refuge, we will cross a magnificent beech forest with more or less constant ascent with some ramps.
Arrived at the refuge or better to say usable bivouac (very nice), begins a climb to Monte Nero, very challenging with heart-breaking gradients, the first 600 meters pedalable for those who have the leg, the remaining 400 you have to put the bike on the shoulder. When you get to the saddle of the crater of Mount Nero you will have a good view of the Northeast crater and there begins the descent that will take us to Piano Provenzana. The trail (S0) is a mixture of sands and lava ridges to ride until a short passage with bike on the shoulder resulting in a short descent (S1) on the roadway leading to the summits. Before arriving at Provenzana take the trail (S1) left to former Rifugio Attilio Conti that connects you to the Sevendays trail (S1) and then to the starting point. Difficulties are 3 stars for the moderately trained, 4 stars for the untrained.
