ETNA NORD 4: Anello partendo da Fornazzo

Loop tour that more for the altitude difference becomes challenging because of the sandy bottom in dry periods, we start via asphalt from Fornazzo for about 5 km, begins on lava paving a challenging climb with slopes for some sections of 20% to then reach the forest of Serra Buffa. At about km 8 we take a path to the right downhill for a couple of km and then go up towards the Rifugio Crisimo (usable only by reservation, there is also an open bivouac next to it), we continue through woods and lava flows towards the Ragabo woods where there are two refuges with refreshments (Ragabo and Clan dei Ragazzi) along the asphalt road (Mareneve) that we will follow for about 4 km and then turn left onto a path. This trail will take us on a trail (Black Desert) with ups and downs cutting through a flow with remarkable panoramic views.

We continue towards the Cave of Thieves which is easy to enjoy if you wish, and then enter on asphalt for about a hundred meters and at the height of a gate on the right, climb over the guardrail to reach the beginning of the very flowing forest trail (S0-S1). At the end of the trail go up a few hundred meters in the direction of Rifugio Case Paternò (not usable).

After the refuge a varied flow trail and a few passages on lava rock takes us towards Fontanelle road that will connect us on asphalt towards the final part to get back to Fornazzo.
