Passo del Cancellino (via Lago del Cavone)
This is a loop tour whose departure can be either from Lizzano in Belvedere or Vidiciatico; follow the provincial road SP71 arriving as far as Lago del Cavone (1415 m.s.l.m.).
Now follow the CAI 329 forest road that leads to Lake Scaffaiolo (1775 meters) passing by the Le Malghe refuge; after a well-deserved break in one of the most characteristic places of our territory, take the CAI 00 ridge trail up to the Strofinatoio pass (1847 meters) and, continuing on the same trail, you will reach the Cancellino pass (1630 meters). This last section is very challenging with a first part of bike backpacking that will test a bit the bikers who want to try this trail.
Here we are ready for one of the longest and most challenging descents in our area, which runs on the CAI 121 trail and takes us to the Segavecchia Refuge (930 meters); a trail that alternates fast, flowing segments with tight switchbacks that will test the trialist skills of those willing to tackle them in the saddle. We now take the paved road back to Lizzano in Belvedere passing Pianaccio (915 meters) birthplace of Enzo Biagi.
In conclusion, this is definitely an itinerary not for everyone, but one that offers many emotions both from a scenic and an adrenaline point of view.
