FORCELLA SESIS
We start from the sports field of Forni Avoltri and for 8 km we go up the provincial road to Cima Sappada, then following the signs for Sorgenti del Piave we continue for another 8.5 km always on asphalt until the refuge of the same name, except for a small detour.
The rest of the climb, finally unpaved, is the kind that leaves its mark: 2.2 km x 340 m with maximum gradients of 28%.
Having overcome this challenge we are only at Rif. Calvi, now missing the last 160 meters of ascent to be climbed by pushing or shouldering bikes for about 800m. And so we arrive at the Forcella Sesis at 2320m between the Peralba and Chiadenis with wonderful views of the Val Fleons, which we will soon ride downhill, and the Val Visdende.
The descent, apart from the very first few meters of elevation gain that are not cyclable, and the next short section that is discontinuous and hostile, is wild and free-range, rugged just like Carnia, a classic high mountain trail with steps, rocks, grass gullies and fords, you don't need to be a phenomena but having a firm guide and knowing how to choose the correct lines you do !
As you descend the trail widens to become a fast and steep forestry where discs and pads will be put to the test. At the sight of the first houses in a short time we are at the parking lot.
