Il Forte di Monte Castelletto e lunga discesa fino a San Martino Buon Albergo
To climb to the Fort on Mount Castelletto, apart from the last stretch, we followed a mostly asphalt route because of the soggy ground from the copious rains of the past few days. With dry ground there is certainly no shortage of largely unpaved alternatives. From the Fort, on a clear day, there is an excellent panorama.
Donning the protections, a pleasant and enjoyable all dirt descent begins all the way down to Moruri. The descent has a few steep sections but no challenging passages. From Moruri to Castagne, again due to terrain conditions, we followed the asphalt road until near Castagne. Abandoning the asphalt, a long and smooth descent begins, mostly unpaved (only short sections on paved roads but without traffic) all the way down to San Martino Buonalbergo. Very pleasant last stretch on path in the Fratte woods.
Note: the trail can be done even on water-soaked ground without any particular problems. It is therefore suitable for rainy season. A minimum of familiarity with slippery terrain is sufficient.
