ENDURO DI PONENTE 6^ TAPPA: VENTIMIGLIA ED IL MONTE GRAMMONDO

We end this long journey westward by arriving at the French border by climbing the fearsome Grammondo before tackling one of the longest descents I have ever done.

We are almost in France but first we will have to climb Grammondo, the Coppi summit of this immense tour. It will not be a walk but by now we are ready for anything and so off we go.

We get on asphalt and head towards the Alta area of Ventimiglia. With a short descent to St. Anthony we regain our strength because from there on it will be all uphill. From about 330 meters above sea level the road becomes a nice pedalable mule track almost to the top. We pass a resounding dry terracing and notice a lively wild boar activity that has made the road very bumpy. We hold on because it will take at least almost two hours to get to the junction with Punta Renuit and give ourselves, with a final push and then shoulder if you will, the summit of Mt. Grammondo at 1,379 meters above sea level. Here the world will be at your feet and you will enjoy impressive views. You can also leave the mtb first and walk to the cross: the important thing is to come there. Well now we will have to prepare the very long descent, the longest in life (about 10 km) because first of all very bumpy and rocky in the first part and then technical and finally steep. Never fast and very slow. We will skirt the entire French border in this section that from Mt. Grammondo descends to Passo Elsi, pas De La Corne, then Passo del Cardellino and Mt. Bellenda. Once you reach Ventimiglia you can finally retrace every meter of the tour in your imagination certain that another feat is accomplished.
