Trail e malghe del Cesen

Departing from the large parking lot at the entrance to the town of Follina (TV), in the first part of the itinerary cross the Prosecco hills in a westerly direction, via minor roads in a unique UNESCO environment.

Just above Combai beware of passing through the private hamlet of Colmellere, tolerated if caution and education are used. From here a path drops us down near the Madean climb. We ride the first 4 hairpin bends on asphalt, then deviate to the left on a dirt forest road that gradually enters the woods until it becomes a narrow single-track.

We come out on the Guizza road (600 meters) and proceed in the direction of Pian de Farnè, on a mixed concrete/gravel ascent and gradient that is significant at times. Reaching Pian de Farnè (900 meters) other short tears and a nice passage next to imposing old trees finally bring us to the fountain of Pianezze (1070 meters), where we refuel with water. We cross the square and a group of houses to reach and walk along a couple of nice trails, the first with small steps and the second smoother where, if you are lucky, you will not miss sightings of deer & Co.

We arrive at Col Balcon, go up the hairpin bends and take the paved road to the left towards the Cesen summit, which we will follow only until we reach Malga Barbaria (1410 meters), where we deviate to the left on an initially not very visible track, slightly uphill, which then becomes a nice descent on a scenic trail. We descend again and again to near the hairpin bend from which the forest road (Molvine road) branches off, which bypasses the Cesen to the west and north, and which we obviously follow in its entire length, passing by a couple of malghe (downhill and uphill stretches with some tears) until we come out at Capitel di Garda (1200 meters); here we can decide whether to make the Malga Garda loop to the north or already begin the ascent to the GPM of Malga Mariech (1500 meters). From Malga Mariech there is a wide view to the south; on particularly clear days the view sweeps as far as the Istrian coast.

From the GPM we proceed eastward on the well-known malga route, which will take us to malga Federa, the Posa Puner hut with a following nice downhill trail, and finally malga Mont (more trail). A little further on we throw ourselves into a dirt descent (initially a bit bumpy) on via Boschilughi, which will quickly take us down 900 meters of elevation to Valmareno, where a last trail next to a small stream will allow us to reach Follina, its centuries-old Abbey and finally, the starting point.
