Cime e grotte carsiche da Trieste a Monfalcone
This ride starts by leaving one's car at the parking lot of the Monfalcone train station, here we will take the train+bike to Trieste Centrale station and from there our pedaling will begin.
Obviously the first section will be urban, but we will have to face the dreaded Scala Santa, 2 km of all cobblestone climb with an average gradient of 15%.
Once in Opicina finally the gradient will drop and we will start some ups and downs that will take us to the Monrupino Sanctuary. From there, still through fairly easy dirt roads we will go to flank the top of Mount Lanaro.
Now the dirt road becomes a path flanked in places by the typical dry-stone walls of the Karst, and we will also go to flank Mount San Leonardo.
Continuing on the path we will also find accesses to various caves, including the Bacche cave and the Dorfler cave, we will reach the top of Mount Sambuco and from there a nice descent that will take us towards the Monfalcone train station.
