Tour dei 6 Laghi nell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano
We start from the Queens just below Abetone and immediately reach Lake Nero, the first of the 6 lakes we will visit today. We pedal without any particular difficulty up to the Shepherds' Hut where we get fresh water. From here on up to the hut on the lake, the stretches where it is possible to pedal are really few both for the slopes and for the very uneven ground.
After a coffee and a piece of cake we resume the path bike on shoulder to reach the ridge at the foot of the Denti della Vecchia. We finally get back in the saddle and very quickly reach Lake Piatto. We continue always following Cai 519, pass Hannibal Pass and arrive at Foce a Giovo.
From here begins the most strenuous stretch to visit the third and fourth lakes, Torbido and Turchino. In fact, the trail for the most part is not cyclable forcing us to push or shoulder-load our bikes. We continue to follow the 519 always alternating between pedalable and pushable sections until we reach Lago Santo. Before reaching the latter we make a short detour to Lake Baccio.
After visiting Lago Santo we descend to the parking lot via a short path and continue on the asphalt until we take the Cai 531 that leads to the road to Rotari. After passing the small hamlet we arrive at the Fiancata where a dirt road branches off on the right that recovers the Via del Duca that will lead us to Casa Coppi. We resume climbing to the Val di Luce parking lots where we continue the route following the Sentiero del Tedesco.
At the end of it instead of staying at elevation we try a path not marked on the maps on a steep incline that, however, causes us to lose more elevation gain than we thought. Reaching the Val di Luce state road below Faidello we decide to return to the car by asphalt.
