Circumnavigazione del monte San Daniele (SLO)
Start in Italy, from a large and safe parking lot.
The first section is in the urban area (Gorizia), then via a small road that turns into a path we reach the monastery of Castagnevizza (SLO), where the last king of France is buried along with his family. After crossing the Panovec park and passing road 613, a series of forest climbs begin that have us flanking Mount St. Daniel and then, after a short and enjoyable descent into the forest, we finally go to attack the leg-breaking climb.
The climb is long and always steep, and we will notice some signs on the left leading to the top of the mountain. The path is not very suitable for bikes both as a bottom and as slopes, at the top the view is unfortunately not totally enjoyable because of the thick vegetation.
When we reach the saddle between San Daniele and Zverinec on the right we will have a short path that will lead us to a magnificent viewpoint complete with a wooden bench: not to be missed!
The climb continues steadily up to Pri Peci, where we will find some asphalt (practically deserted peripheral roads) and then face some dirt roads on the Karst plateau.
The subsequent mostly unpaved descent will allow us to return to the city, first Nova Gorica and then Gorizia, and finally to the parking lot.
