Pietra Cappa
Very challenging itinerary for mtb, starting from Bovalino. The excursion crosses the Aspromonte National Park, passing Pietra Cappa, Pietra S. Pietro and Pietra Lunga, in the Valley of the Great Stones. Pietra Cappa occupies about 4 hectares of land and is 140 meters high, resulting in the highest monolith in Europe.
So, start from sea level, driving along the provincial road for about 9 km. Turn left onto a dirt road and continue towards Natile Vecchio. After passing the town, continue on dirt roads. Slowly climb to 830 meters, reaching the highest point at Pietra Lunga. During the ascent you cross paths surrounded by myrtle, strawberry tree, chestnut tree. Arriving on Pietra Cappa, you will take a stone staircase that precedes a path that will be done partly in the saddle and partly on foot.
From Pietra Lunga onward it will be all downhill, on dirt road to San Luca, the point where you take the provincial road that leads to the starting point.
