Pizzo - Guardavalle (CTC)

An itinerary for trained bikers, to be done by mtb/gravel that runs along the Calabrian greenhouses, starting from the so-called Angitola junction, near Pizzo Calabro, the first municipality on the Coast of the Gods, and destination Guardavalle, on the Ionian coast of Catanzaro. The route starts uphill, on an asphalt road heading towards Serra San Bruno. We pass by Lake Angitola, and pass through the towns of San Nicola da Crissa, Simbario, Spadola and Brognaturo. Passing the last towns of the province of Vibo included in the tour, you pass near Lake Lacina, you are above 1000 meters altitude. You pass through the small village of Elce della Vecchia and descend to Guardavalle marina. The return route will be the same as the one taken on the outward journey, except for a detour that will force you to pass through Guardavalle.

The route is almost entirely on asphalt, but the mountainous terrain makes it pleasantly suitable for mtb/gravel, even for a few short sections of dirt road. On the way out, the climb will be mostly covered by the shade of tall trees, but on the way back the climb will be in the warm sun of the Ionian coast.
