Montecatino
Dirt roads and scenic trails about 16 km, asphalt about 5 km. Start and finish from Borgo Giannotti north of Lucca.
We start on asphalt road in the direction of Monte San Quirico-Camaiore until the junction for Ponte a Moriano. We turn right for about 500 meters and take the dirt road with cypress trees in the direction of the former seminary. The road begins to climb and after a passage through an olive grove we enter a sentirero that takes us to the hill of Maolina. A short asphalt section and then we continue on a dirt road with a steep uphill slope until we cross the road that goes up from the Chapel.
Weturn right, still uphill, and head to the top of the hill where there are the ruins of the church and tower of the former castle of Monte Catino. We descend for about 400 meters along the same road made uphill and at a hairpin bend we enter a path to the right downhill. It is a path that in the first section is heavily beaten by motorcycles that have dug it out in several places (the difficult part is only a few dozen meters). This path takes us to the village of Torre (locality Querce). From here after a few hundred meters on asphalt we continue on a path in the direction of Cappella. Arrived at the village church we turn on a dirt road to the left and to follow path, always downhill to Arsina.
Short stretch of asphalt and new turn on dirt road to the state road to Camaiore. We cross the road and turn for Mutigliano. We ascend on technical uphill trail to a nice clearing. New descent on path until we find the road that connects Mutigliano to S.Alessio. After a few dozen meters turn left on a dirt road that leads us to the church of Monte San Quirico. We then descend along the paved road until we find ourselves back at the starting point.
